Senna

Senna

Senna: Latin name: (Genus) Senna; (Species) S. alexandrina.

Senna Pods are the seed pods of the Alexandrian Senna plant (Senna alexandrina), an ornamental plant native to Upper Egypt and northern Sudan, although it is also found in India and the eastern United States.

Similar to rhubarb, aloes, cascara and other cathartic laxatives, Senna Pods contain compounds called anthraquinones which act as a purgative on the lower bowel and which, most herbalists agree, are especially effective in the relief of chronic constipation.

No surprises then, that Senna Pods have been used both historically and in modern times as a laxative.

NOTE: Not recommended for longterm use.

For further information on the properties and use of Senna Pods we suggest you consult a qualified herbal or medical practitioner.
