Mullein is one of a genus of about 250 species of flowering plants in the figwort family native to Europe and Asia, and has a long history of use as a herbal remedy.
Primarily, Mullein has been used in herbal medicine to treat respiratory disorders, such as asthma, bronchitis, coughs and colds, chest infections and other upper respiratory tract problems.
In addition, Mullein has proved particularly effective in the treatment of ear infections, throat infections and flu, and has also been used to treat more serious conditions like whooping cough, pleurisy and pneumonia.
Some herbalists also recommend Mullein for headaches and migraine.
To make a tea: Use 1-2 teaspoons of Earthfare Organic Mullein to a cup of boiling water and allow to brew for 10-15 minutes before drinking. And be sure to strain carefully, using a fine-meshed strainer in order to separate out the fine velvety hairs produced by this plant.
Caution: Gloves and protective clothing are recommended when handling this herb. Contact with the skin may cause irritation which results in red, itchy or inflamed skin.
For further information on the properties and use of Mullein we suggest you consult a qualified herbal or medical practitioner.
