Chlorella

Chlorella

Chlorella is a single-cell, fresh-water green algae that obtains its energy through photosynthesis.

Chlorella: Latin name: (Genus) Arthrospira; (Species) C. pyrenoidosa.

Like Spirulina, also a green algae, Chlorella is a rich source of minerals, vitamins and amino acids.

In fact it is a complete protein (which means it contains the 8 ‘essential’ amino acids) and is also said to contain the highest levels of nutrient-rich chlorophyll of any known plant.

Many nutritionists promote chlorophyll (the green pigment in plants) as a natural blood and colon cleanser, as well as a tonic for general health and wellbeing.

Chlorella is also rich in antioxidants, specifically beta-carotene and vitamins A, C and E, known to scavenge free radicals, and has been used to boost the immune system against the spread of cancer.

Other health benefits attributed to Chlorella include regulation of blood pressure, promotion of cardiovascular health, prevention of strokes and blood sugar balance.

Plus, its usefulness as an all-round tonic and energy booster.

Not bad for a single-cell algae!
