Barley Grass

Barley Grass

Essentially, Barley Grass is the leaf (or leaves) of the cereal crop Barley before grain is produced and before the plant’s stem is fully developed.

Barley Grass: Latin name: (Genus) Hordeum; (Species) H. vulgare.

The plant’s young leaves, or ‘Barley Grass’, contain high levels of vitamins, antioxidants and flavonoids, as well as high concentrations of chlorophyll, enzymes and amino acids, which together provide excellent oxygenating and detoxifying effects.

Barley Grass is also said to contain 11 times as much calcium as cows’ milk  and 5 times as much iron as spinach.

Most herbalists and nutritionists today recognise Barley Grass as a concentrated nutritious ‘superfood’ which is believed to prevent cell damage caused by harmful free radicals and other toxins, and to help protect immune system cells.

Indeed, traditionally Barley Grass has been taken to help in the treatment of a broad range of conditions, including asthma, arthritis, diabetes, eczema and acne.

Also to:
relieve stomach disorders;
stimulate weight loss;
repair cell DNA;
scavenge free radicals;
reduce cholesterol.

So there we have it. Suffice to say this wonderfood is recommended by many nutritionists today as an all-round bad boy tonic!

Directions for use: Add a teaspoonful of Earthfare Organic Barley Grass Powder to a cold drink, mixing in well.
